Julianne Hough marked her return to the ballroom with Season 32 of Dancing With the Stars. Although fans love her and Alfonso Ribeiro as co-hosts of the show, the former pro’s schedule is busier than ever, which has viewers worried that she might be leaving again to pursue other opportunities. Is Julianne Hough leaving Dancing With the Stars? We have the answer below.
Dancing With the Stars is ABC’s reality TV dance competition series based on the United Kingdom’s Strictly Come Dancing. The series, which premiered in 2005, pairs celebrities with professional dancers. The couples then compete against each other for judges’ points and audience votes. The pair with the lowest combined judges’ points and audience votes is eliminated each week until only one champion remains. That couple is declared the winner and receives the coveted Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
Hough joined DWTS as a pro dancer during Season 4, following in the footsteps of her older brother Derek Hough, who was already a pro at the time. She left the show in 2009, but continued to make appearances as a judge, guest judge and performer. The two-time Mirrorball champion came back to DWTS full time during Season 32, serving as the show’s new c0-host alongside Season 19 winner Alfonso Ribeiro.
Since wrapping her first run as host, Hough has kept very busy. The entertainer was originally planning on joining the 2024 DWTS live tour, but she had to pull out at the last minute due to a conflict with her filming schedule for an undisclosed project.
“I’ve been so looking forward to getting to connect with all our amazing fans on the road and perform live alongside the DWTS Tour cast for select dates; however, due to a change in my production shooting schedule, a conflict has come up and I will no longer be able to join the tour for my scheduled dates,” she said in a statement at the time. “I love our DWTS community and I’m devastated to miss seeing you all in person, but I can assure you that this cast is delivering an unforgettable show that you won’t want to miss.”
While fans were sad that Hough wouldn’t be on tour, they were more concerned that she might leave the show altogether. Read on to find out if Julianne Hough is leaving Dancing With the Stars.

Is Julianne Hough leaving Dancing With the Stars? As of now, no. According to Deadline, Julianne Hough has been confirmed to return for Season 33 of Dancing With the Stars. This could certainly change, however, and it’s still unclear how many seasons she’ll stay on for after Season 33.
In March 2024, Hough landed a role in the upcoming Frankenstein film The Bride. Maggie Gyllenhaal is directing the movie and it will also star Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening and Penelope Cruz. Hough’s role has not yet been disclosed, but filming has already commenced in New York City and it is slated to release in IMAX on October 3, 2025. Per the official synopsis, The Bride will see a lonely Frankenstein travel to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.
Since DWTS is tapped live, filming for Season 33 will likely commence in September 2024. Although we don’t know for sure, Hough’s new role could potentially conflict with DWTS and take her away from the reality show, which films in Los Angeles. A project this big might also shift Hough’s focus back into acting.
After first leaving DWTS back in 2009, Hough delved into the entertainment industry, earning roles in the 2011 remake of Footloose, 2011’s Burlesque, 2012’s Rock of Ages and the 2013 adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel Safe Haven. In recent years, she has scaled back her acting and has instead focused on her various entrepreneurial endeavors. In 2018, she founded the dance and fitness platform KINERGY, which provides customers with a daily dose of self-care that includes dance cardio, fitness, mindful movement, meditations, sound healing and more. On March 2, 2024, KINERGY opened its first brick-and-mortar location in West Hollywood, California.
With a new film project in the pipeline and her rapidly expanding business, it should be interesting to see how Hough fits DWTS into her hectic schedule. If anyone can do it, though, it’s Julianne Hough.
