We sure have heard a lot of stories about how the NBA legend Michael Jordan , who won six championships with the Chicago Bulls and stunned everyone when he left the glamour of being a basketball star to pursue his dream of becoming a baseball player. But we also know, how that story ended.

It appears the NFL star Patrick Mahomes found himself similar to Jordan’s position in the 1990s when he decided to take up the challenge and made a sport shift– from basketball to baseball. Aside from Mahomes’ love for basketball, the quarterback appears more fond of baseball.

But he sure is mindful to not repeat the mistakes of Jordan. He ought to take a lesson from it and instead of leaving the NFL glory at the prime of his career, he would much prefer checking out his abilities on the ball field. In his recent interview with TIME magazine for being honored as one of the Most Influential People of 2024, the elite quarterback opened up about his fondness for the sport of baseball.

I’ve talked to the Royals. And if I can maybe go out to a spring training, I’m not opposed to that. I’ll get it approved by the Chiefs and everything like that. But maybe one of these years I go out there and see what I got. See if I can still hit the ball or pitch or whatever that is. Maybe not in the games but I can at least practice with them . Most of the three-time Super Bowl champion’s passion for baseball comes from his father, who was a major league pitcher. Given he lacks no dedication and commitment toward leading the Chiefs to their ultimate goal of a three-peat, the Chiefs are likely to approve the quarterback’s request.

When asked the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid about Mahomes’ interest in baseball, he said:

He was a heck of a baseball player. He grew up around it. I’m sure he can play in the major leagues. I mean, he’s pretty gifted. He’d have to take me as a manager. Andy Reid responded
Moreover, as it appears the quarterback has thought this through. It wouldn’t be much of a difficulty for trying his hand with the baseball bat, given he is a minority owner of the Kansas City Royals.
