The Las Vegas Raiders, demonstrating their strategic prowess, secured the best player available in the second round, offensive guard Jackson Powers-Johnson. Despite his projected first-round status, the Raiders seized the opportunity to add a long-time Raiders fan to their roster.

5 interesting facts about Raiders Round 2 OL Jackson Powers-Johnson

The other reason he fell that low was apparently because of some injury concerns from others. When he was at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, JPJ left the second practice with a hamstring injury.

It’s worth noting the Raiders’ unwavering confidence in Powers-Johnson’s health, a testament to their thorough scouting and medical evaluations. Their surprise at finding him available in the second round, despite injury concerns raised by others, underscores their belief in his fitness.

During his introductory press conference, the rookie guard was asked if he was healthy, and he couldn’t help but laugh.

“I think it’s kind of funny just because I had really no health issues. I had a really quick day at the combine during the orthos (exam) and the medical. So, it’s kind of funny to kind of see that,” Jackson Powers-Johnson said. “It’s not true; I’m 100% healthy and 100% ready to go. I’m feeling great, especially now, but yeah, I think it’s just kind of something that kind of itches you a little bit, but it’s not true.”

The Raiders will likely start JPJ at the right guard position for the 2024 season. He says he is good to go right now, and I believe him. The Raiders are revamping their offensive line somewhat, as there is a chance that both the right guard and right tackle spots are different than last year.

Even if JPJ did have injury problems, which he doesn’t, the Raiders have now positioned themselves to have an impressive depth on the offensive line after drafting Delmar Glaze and signing Cody Whitehair. Powers-Johnson’s aggressive style and perfect fit for this team make this a winning pick by the Raiders, and those who passed on him due to his “injury concerns” are likely to regret it.
