Not everyone is convinced that Candiace Dillard Bassett left The Real Housewives of Potomac on her own accord. When Candiace announced her exit, she claimed it was her decision. Carlos King thinks Bravo fired her.
The former Housewives producer and self-proclaimed “king of reality TV” dropped the accusation during an episode of Two Ts in a Pod. He and Teddi Mellencamp were dishing on the RHOP Season 8 reunion. When Teddi asked Carlos if he believed Candiace “quit or got fired,” he didn’t hold back with his answer.
Does anyone walk away from The Real Housewives?
In response to Teddi’s question about Candiace, Carlos presented a question of his own. Do Housewives ever actually quit? Carlos doesn’t think so.
He noted, “I just don’t think people quit. I think it has to be a very drastic situation for people to quit.”
When Candiace announced her exit from RHOP, she said that she “decided to take a break from RHOP” because of a “whirlwind of new opportunities and responsibilities.” Previously, she hinted that she wanted to pivot into a full-time music career. On the show, we watched her take baby steps towards making that dream a reality.
On Two Ts in a Pod, Teddi pointed out that Candiace’s performance at the reunion didn’t give the vibe of someone who planned on quitting. She showed up with those giant posterboards and enough tears to flood the studio. Why would she turn around and quit after that?
Carlos compared Candiace’s exit to other Real Housewives who we know for certain quit the show. For example, Lisa Vanderpump definitely quit Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and we know that Bethenny Frankel walked away from Real Housewives of New York City on two separate occasions. Carlos noted that Candiace wasn’t on that same level.
“These women who are millionaires are like, ‘I don’t need it,’” Carlos continued. “I just don’t think that quitting Housewives is on anyone’s bingo card.”
Whether or not Candiace quit on her own or was politely asked to leave, everyone’s confident that we haven’t seen the last of Candiace. If anything, this is probably a pause. In her exit statement, she teased, “This is not a farewell, but a ‘see you later.’ “
