The Real Housewives of Potomac alum previously shared how her husband’s kids felt about her having a baby.
Candiace Dillard Bassett is getting ready for parenthood now that she’s pregnant with her first child. But her husband, Chris Bassett, has three kids, giving him plenty of experience in that department.
When Chris wed The Real Housewives of Potomac alum in 2018, Chris was already a dad. While announcing her pregnancy, Candiace shared why she’s happy that Chris is bringing so much knowledge about being a parent to the table.
Chris, who shares two sons and one daughter with his exes (his son, Mateo, and his daughter, Naia, appeared on Season 6 of RHOP), is doing his best to “stay engaged” with Candiace as she navigates her first pregnancy.
“That’s something I gotta keep in mind as we go through this process, right? That I’ve done this three times already; this is her first time,” Chris shared with Entertainment Tonight. “I’ve gotta make sure for me that I stay engaged, ’cause I’ve gotta be super supportive for her and she’s gonna need that all the way through. So, that’s kind of what I’m looking forward to, just to share it and experience it with Candiace and just see where it goes.”
The “Drive Back” singer is thrilled that her husband has so much experience when it comes to kids.
“There is a lot of comfort in knowing that he’s done this three times, with two boys and a girl, so he’s seen both sides,” she added.
How Chris Bassett’s Kids Reacted to Candiace’s Family Plans
Before Candiace got pregnant, she spent a few years contemplating when she would want to have kids. She consulted her stepdaughter and her stepson when she was first embarking on her IVF journey.
During a Q&A with BravoTV.com in November 2022, Candiace noted that her stepdaughter wasn’t very enthusiastic about the prospect of becoming a big sister.
Candiace recalled that Naia “was like, ‘No, I don’t want any more,’” she said in the interview.
“Then I was like, ‘OK, well, you know, that’s good to know, but maybe it might be cool if we had one or two. I think we could make it work, right?’” Candiace continued. “And she was like, ‘Well, maybe I’ll think about it…’ I remember being that way when I was an only child. She’s the youngest, so I get it from being the youngest, from that perspective.”
Mateo had a very different point of view than his sister. “He’s a boy. So he’s like, ‘Yeah, cool. Whatever,’” Candiace said.
