‘The Golden Bachelor’ couple announced their plan to “dissolve” their marriage three months after tying the knot on TV<\/p>\n
Not everyone was surprised by\u00a0Gerry Turner\u00a0and\u00a0Theresa Nist\u2019s\u00a0divorce, which comes three months after their\u00a0Golden Bachelor<\/em>\u00a0wedding.<\/p>\n A source tells PEOPLE that \u201cit was never going to work\u201d between the two reality TV stars. As for the reason, \u201cthey never lived together,\u201d the insider says.<\/p>\n “Things have been tough for months,” the source adds. “They\u2019ve been fighting since right after the wedding.”<\/p>\n On April 12, Turner, 72, and Nist, 70, appeared together for a joint interview on\u00a0Good Morning America<\/em>, where they announced they plan to \u201cdissolve\u201d their marriage. Both Turner and Nist confirmed they\u2019re still in love, but logistically it doesn\u2019t make sense for them to remain in a committed relationship.<\/p>\n Turner is still living at an Indiana lake house, while Nist resides in New Jersey. They previously decided on Charleston, South Carolina as a compromise.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the things that I think fate played a hand in is the possibility of where we might wind up living,\u201d\u00a0Gerry told PEOPLE ahead of their marriage. \u201cFor the last couple of years, when my family gets together, I’ve talked about moving to South Carolina, and it’s an idea I’ve toyed with. And then in conversation with Theresa, a private moment, she’s saying, \u2018Well, yeah, my son lives near Charleston in South Carolina.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The couple did search for properties in Charleson, but nothing stuck. \u201cWe looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” Nist said after the couple said they\u2019d been \u201c100 percent committed to making it work.\u201d<\/p>\n The delay in living together caused further reflection on the couple\u2019s priorities, they said. \u201cThe thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families,\u201d Turner explained. \u201cSo we look at these conversations and we both think it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”<\/p>\n Turner and Nist tied the knot after the first season of\u00a0The Golden Bachelor<\/em>\u00a0aired on ABC in 2023. Their January 2024 wedding aired live on the network, and was attended by Bachelor Nation legacy cast members \u2014 from\u00a0Trista\u00a0and\u00a0Ryan Sutter\u00a0to\u00a0Wells Adams.<\/p>\n “I promise to shout the ‘I love yous’ by day, and whisper them softly at night. I promise to keep you safe.
