It was so exhausting,\u201d Evans, 53, said during the Thursday, April 4, episode of her\u00a0\u201cDiving in Deep\u201d podcast. \u201cIt was one of the hardest times in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Sara-Evans-Quit-Dancing-With-the-Stars-After-Horrific-Divorce-From-Ex-Craig-Schelske.jpg?crop=0px%2C14px%2C1361px%2C769px&amp;resize=1600%2C900&amp;quality=86&amp;strip=all\" alt=\"Sara Evans Quit Dancing With the Stars After Horrific Divorce From Ex Craig Schelske\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The singer admitted that her \u201cmarriage was dissolving\u201d months before becoming a\u00a0<em>DWTS<\/em>\u00a0cast member during the show\u2019s third season. \u201cI knew that I needed to get out of the marriage, but I didn\u2019t believe in divorce, I didn\u2019t want to divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evans and Schelske were married from 1993 to 2007 and share three kids together. She\u00a0filed for divorce in October 2006, accusing Schelske of infidelity, verbal and emotional abuse and claiming that he watched pornography in their house. Accusations which he denied at the time. Nearly a year later, the divorce was finalized with the pair getting joint custody of their kids.<\/p>\n<p>After meeting her\u00a0<em>DWTS<\/em>\u00a0partner,<strong>\u00a0Tony Dovolani<\/strong>, he asked what was going on in her marriage. That was the moment Evans realized it was \u201cobvious\u201d she and Schelske were having major problems.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad__slot--wrapper ad__w300 ad__h250 ad__align\" data-viewport-child=\"kIetJ6js\">\n<div id=\"article-inline-box2\" class=\"dfp-slot advertisement ad__slot ad__h50-inner\" role=\"region\" aria-label=\"Advertisement\" data-google-query-id=\"CK2_vM290oUDFWjRFgUdlloHCA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/4216\/usweekly\/inline-box2\/article_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAs I was appearing on\u00a0<em>Dancing With the Stars<\/em>, the marriage was breaking down.
