It\u2019s no secret the team likes LSU quarterback\u00a0Jayden Daniels\u00a0but the only way to have an almost guaranteed chance to get him is to move up to the No. 2 pick.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/GettyImages-1958538768-1.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=780\" alt=\"tom telesco\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to an\u00a0April 23 X post\u00a0from NFL Network\u2019s Mike Garafolo, the Raiders attempted to trade for the No. 2 pick from the\u00a0Washington Commanders\u00a0but were rejected.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear what the Raiders offered or if they made an offer at all. The Commanders could simply be turning down teams without hearing them out. Washington needs a quarterback badly and picking at No. 2 gives them many options.<\/p>\n<p>For the Raiders, it shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise they couldn\u2019t get up to No. 2. The Commanders probably need a quarterback more than them so the price to move up could\u2019ve\u00a0been astronomical\u00a0even if Washington was willing to listen. The Commanders are likely locked into a quarterback, which is why they aren\u2019t considering moving down. The Raiders will need to explore other options now that Washington has made their stance clear.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Jayden Daniels Appears to Be Target at No. 2<\/h2>\n<p>For a moment, it looked like the Commanders might not end up drafting Jayden Daniels. There was some\u00a0behind-the-scenes drama\u00a0between the two sides but it looks like it has gotten worked out.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Not surprisingly, the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Raiders?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Raiders<\/a> are among the teams who tested the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Commanders?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Commanders<\/a> on moving out of 2, even after Washington GM Adam Peters told the media the team planned to stick and pick, sources say. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SgeGbVeGBU\">https:\/\/t.co\/SgeGbVeGBU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MikeGarafolo\/status\/1782815669123170669?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 23, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to NFL Network\u2019s Peter Scharger, the two sides have ironed things out and it looks like Daniels is going to be the No. 2 pick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think on Friday afternoon, I would have had a different conversation with you, to be honest. \u2026 I think the last few days things have settled a bit,\u201d Schrager said on the\u00a0April 23 episode\u00a0of the \u201cPat McAfee Show.\u201d \u201cAnd I don\u2019t know if there\u2019s been conversations with Dan Quinn, or with Kliff Kingsbury, but from all the intel that I\u2019m gathering, it sounds like Daniels [No. 2] to the Commanders is a lot more likely now than it might have been on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I\u2019m going to put my name on something now, I think Jayden Daniels is going to go [No. 2] to Washington. And then they still have five picks in the top 100, they can surround him with more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nothing is set in stone until Daniels\u2019 name is called at the NFL Draft but it\u2019s looking like the Raiders won\u2019t even get the chance to draft him.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Would Las Vegas Raiders Still Trade up for Different QB?<\/h2>\n<p>If Jayden Daniels is off the board at No. 2, the Raiders will have to look elsewhere. The only other quarterback they\u2019ve been heavily linked to is\u00a0Washington\u2019s Michael Penix Jr.\u00a0The team hasn\u2019t shown a ton of interest in UNC\u2019s Drake Maye or Michigan\u2019s J.J. McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>Both of those quarterbacks would likely require the Raiders to trade up so it\u2019s hard to imagine either will end up in Las Vegas. If the team is going to take a quarterback in the first round, it appears that it would be Penix, who should be available when the team picks at No. 13.
