\u201cThis is a long story,\u201d John Henry, 31, shared during a Wednesday, April 24, appearance on the\u00a0\u201cAlmost Famous\u201d podcast. The former\u00a0BiP<\/em>\u00a0star explained that when he started his career as a commercial diver, known for underwater welding, he promised to give 10 years to the job before looking for love. However, his engagement to Kat, 27, derailed his plans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told her, as of right now, my career is not relationship friendly. She knew that. But I was like, my plan is to get out of it anyways,\u201d John Henry explained, noting that he \u201cbounced around a ton\u201d for the job.<\/p>\n

Initially, Kat \u2014 a travel nurse \u2014 moved to North Carolina so she could be closer to John Henry, even though her dream was to live in San Diego.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings were going really well. Now, I have this job and then I get in this relationship. Then now it\u2019s like, OK, I have to start figuring out what I\u2019m going to do, how I\u2019m going to make this transition to a career that is going to be a lot easier for me and her to work with,\u201d he recalled. \u201cIt just caught me by surprise. Now I\u2019m starting to stress out about how I\u2019m going to make this move.\u201d<\/p>\n

While John Henry was trying to figure out the next steps of life with Kat. \u201cSo, I started to have my doubts,\u201d he admitted. \u201cThen, I started to see our differences a lot more. So, things just really got hard for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

John Henry proposed\u00a0to Kat during the\u00a0Bachelor in Paradise<\/em>\u00a0season 9 finale, which aired in December 2023. While he was struggling with the next steps of their relationship, the show was airing, which caused an extra strain on their engagement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt got to a point where it was just extremely hard for the both of us. Then basically, I called it quits,\u201d he said. \u201cI said, this doesn\u2019t feel right. I think this should be a lot easier than what it is, and it just, it wasn\u2019t the case. \u2026 I just started thinking to myself, maybe this just isn\u2019t for me. Once I got that in my head, it just kind of spiraled from there.\u201d<\/figure>\n

The former couple announced their breakup days after the\u00a0BiP<\/em>\u00a0finale aired but they actually\u00a0called off their engagement\u00a0days before the show.<\/p>\n

Kat was \u201cshocked\u201d by the split, John Henry said, noting that his mental health struggles also added to his reasoning behind the breakup. Even though they\u2019ve gone their separate ways, John Henry and Kat\u00a0don\u2019t have any bad blood\u00a0between them.<\/p>\n

\u201cKat is amazing. She really is something special. She\u2019s not my longest relationship, but Kat\u2019s a catch. I\u2019ll tell you, she definitely did her part,\u201d he gushed. \u201cDistance is hard for everybody. \u2026 When she loves, she gives it her all, and she did everything that she needed to do and then some in order to try to make our relationship work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
