Vanessa Lachey Was the 1st Female Lead for the \u2018NCIS\u2019 Franchise<\/strong> In the caption of her Instagram post, the season 25 \u201cDancing with the Stars\u201d alum admitted the phrase used by People \u201ctook my breath away.\u201d<\/p>\n Lachey wrote, \u201cMahalo to CBS & Paramount for believing in me and this ground breaking show.\u201d She added, \u201cHere\u2019s to all the incredible People along the way who continue to make it happen! I love my job!!!\u201d<\/p>\n The People article noted that Lachey was the \u201cfirst female lead\u201d for the \u201cNCIS\u201d franchise. \u201cNCIS: Hawai\u2019i\u201d premiered in September 2021, and Lachey has played the character of Tennant since the series debuted.<\/p>\n Lachey told People, \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be able to add to this incredible franchise and to do it as the first female lead has meant more to me than I can ever express.\u201d She added, \u201cIt shows the incredible evolution and longevity that \u2018NCIS\u2019 continues to give its fans.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cNCIS\u201d franchise aired its 1,000th episode on April 15, just after People talked with Lachey about her ground-breaking role. As the media outlet noted, the couple and their three children moved to Hawaii after she landed the role, as it films on location.<\/p>\n The 1,001th episode of \u201cNCIS\u201d to air was part of the \u201cHawai\u2019i\u201d spinoff\u2019s third season. It also served to \u201ckick off the next 1,000\u201d franchise episodes, Lachey noted. In an April 11 Instagram post, she shared that the 1,001th \u201cNCIS\u201d episode was even titled \u201cThe Next Thousand.\u201d<\/p>\n CBS Canceled \u2018NCIS: Hawai\u2019i\u2019 Deadline noted that \u201cNCIS: Hawai\u2019i\u201d now stands out as the first franchise show to feature a female lead and the first franchise show where viewers will not receive a true series wrapup.<\/p>\n CBS renewed the original \u201cNCIS\u201d for season 22, and \u201cNCIS: Los Angeles\u201d moves ahead to season 14. In addition, CBS greenlit \u201cNCIS: New Orleans\u201d season 7.<\/p>\n Paramount+ has\u201dNCIS: Sydney\u201d and a spinoff featuring the characters of Tony and Ziva. A franchise version titled \u201cNCIS: Origins\u201d is in the works, too.<\/p>\n The Cancellation \u2018Gutted\u2019 Lachey Lachey continued, \u201cProcessing this news and still being present with my family. I Love You all!\u201d<\/p>\n On September 13, 2021, Lachey posted an emotional video about the series on Instagram. The video captured Lachey\u2019s reaction when she learned she had landed the \u201cNCIS: Hawai\u2019i\u201d gig.<\/p>\n Lachey sobbed as she recorded in the car and as she arrived to tell her best friend. \nOn April 26, Deadline reported that CBS had canceled \u201cNCIS: Hawai\u2019i.\u201d The season 3 finale, which will now serve as the series finale as well, airs on May 6.<\/p>\n
