<\/p>\nThings remain unsettled between\u00a0Brittany Cartwright\u00a0and\u00a0Jax Taylor\u00a0amid\u00a0their separation.<\/p>\n

The former\u00a0Vanderpump Rules\u00a0<\/em>stars were both in attendance at the 2024\u00a0White House Correspondents\u2019 Association Dinner\u00a0on April 27 in Washington, D.C., and though they enjoyed the evening separately, Cartwright, 35, told PEOPLE that things aren\u2019t hostile between them.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re friendly,\u201d she said of her dynamic with Taylor, 44, who she\u00a0married in 2019\u00a0and announced her separation from in February.<\/p>\n She described the dynamic with a metaphor, saying she and Taylor are still in the \u201csame hotel, different rooms.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s really all I want to say about him,” she admitted.<\/p>\n Cartwright announced the news of their separation after four years of marriage on an episode of their joint podcast,\u00a0When Reality Hits<\/em>, in February.<\/p>\n \u201cJax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health,\u201d she said at the time.<\/p>\n She told PEOPLE at the premiere of their new Bravo show,\u00a0The Valley<\/em>, that\u00a0she \u201creally needed to step back from\u201d the relationship.<\/p>\n “Once a woman hits her breaking point, it’s like ‘Done.’ Something like clicked in my head, and I was like. ‘I need to step away from this situation. This is not not healthy. This is not a good situation. My son deserves better. I deserve better,'” she said.<\/p>\n She also noted that her and Taylor\u2019s\u00a0three-year-old son, Cruz, is the \u201cmost important thing\u201d to them both as they navigate their time apart.<\/p>\n “I feel a little bit of relief,” Cartwright admitted. “I needed this space.”<\/p>\n Taylor similarly remarked on how the separation was \u201cbest for [their] family\u201d as he and Cartwright have “been going through some things for a while now.”<\/p>\n “We decided to take a little bit of a breather. I’m not sure what the future holds for this. But as of right now, this is just the best-case scenario, but this is not a publicity stunt,” he shared.<\/p>\n Co-parenting has been going well thus far for the pair, Cartwright told PEOPLE in early April.<\/p>\n “We’re doing a really good job going back and forth. And I’ll also take him to the house and play and we’ll swim one day or have him play on his play set and we’ll do different things,” she explained, adding that \u201cthe most important thing\u201d is that they\u2019re working well together on Cruz\u2019s behalf.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it’s honestly been better because we aren’t fighting in front of him. And for me, I think that’s what is most important, right now.
