The Carolina Panthers drafted Newton with the first overall pick in the 2011 draft, the same year, Sharpe was inducted into the NFL Hall Of Fame. Not only that, Cam also dived deep into the psychology of gambling, further explaining Jordan\u2019s quote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"article-content-block-5\" data-type=\"content\" data-variant=\"p\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to Newton, athletes often get addicted to the feeling of competition. And once they retire, they often need to get their fill of Adrenaline from someplace else. It\u2019s for this reason, that Newton believes that former athletes \u2018 gamble\u2019, consequently finding themselves in deep controversy just a few years later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"article-content-block-6\" data-type=\"content\" data-variant=\"p\">It is very hard to disagree with the former Panthers man\u2019s point on the topic. Having been a top athlete at the highest level himself, albeit in a different sport entirely, there likely aren\u2019t many in the world who understand Michael Jordan\u2019s predicament better than he does. In the end, it only makes sense for someone with the Bulls legends\u00a0<em>\u2018win at all costs\u2019\u00a0<\/em>to get addicted to the adrenaline rush he once got from basketball. In the book,\u00a0<em>\u2018Michael Jordan: A Life\u2019<\/em>, writer Ronald Lazenby recalled an incident, where Jordan bet throughout the night, and into the morning, just to win all his money back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"article-content-block-8\" data-type=\"content\" data-variant=\"p\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The incident occurred at Connecticut\u2019s Mohegan Sun casino just one night before a basketball match-up. Jordan was already down about $500,000, before he made a miraculous comeback, something that Lazenby attributed to his sheer will to win. Talking about the incident in his book,\u00a0\u00a0Michael Jordan: A Life,\u00a0Lazenby wrote,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"article-content-block-9\" data-type=\"content\" data-variant=\"blockquote\"><p><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cJordan, down $500,000 at the gambling tables, stayed till the sun came up, and he had won his money back, plus about $600,000 more, all the while unaware that [Washington Post writer Michael Leahy] was providing a running play-by-play of the event for readers back in D.C.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"article-content-block-10\" data-type=\"content\" data-variant=\"p\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">While Jordan may have left the table feeling invincible, No.23\u2019s gambling habits would soon come to haunt him. Back in 1993, the Bulls legend was called up by the league for certain gambling-related activities that he was engaged in.
